SIGN, 2019 Inkjet prints, paper, cardboard, tape, glue, wood stick, wooden ruler | Dimensions variable
Installation view at the California Institute of the Arts with digital manipulation, 2019
SIGN consists of a series of photographs taken during the inaugural Women’s march in Los Angeles in 2017, just one day after the inauguration of Donald Trump.
The structure of the back of signs shown in the photographs are recreated as the support of the images themselves. Participants first encounter the support structures and have to walk between the hanging objects before they see the photographs. Recreating the physical appearance of the signs is an attempt to re-eact individual protester’s experience.
