CHARACTER STUDUES, 2025
Ink monoprint on Xuan Paper (rice paper)
33 x 46 cm (13 x 18 in) each

This project deconstructs Chinese characters into visual puzzles, occupying the space between recognition and abstraction. Each print features a single character—fragmented and reimagined—so that it begins to lose immediate legibility and takes on a more pictorial, image-like form.

Inspired by the tradition of single-word Chinese calligraphy, the work explores characters such as love (愛), dream (夢), pain (痛), path (道), authenticity (真), strength (力), virtue (德), and more.

Through this process of breaking down and rearranging, the familiar becomes strange, and the meaning of each word shifts. As the form dissolves, the character’s essence transforms, inviting a different kind of interpretation. The work becomes a quiet meditation on perception, memory, and the poetics of language in motion.
